Trading Draft Picks

Trading Draft Picks
Draft picks and free-agent picks are tradeable assets alongside players. You can include current-season picks and future-season picks in any trade, with restrictions controlled by your league's settings.
What you can trade
There are two kinds of pick assets in FanPoolHQ:
- Draft picks — slots in a future entry draft, identified by round and season. Each pick belongs to exactly one team at any time and moves between teams via trades.
- Free-agent picks — slots in the free-agent selection sequence (for leagues that run an FA pick allotment), identified by year and order.
Both pick types behave the same way in the trade builder: drag the pick onto either side of the trade, the system tracks the original owner separately from the current owner, and the new owning team picks at that slot when the draft or FA period rolls around.
Adding picks to a trade
In the trade builder, click Add pick under either column. You'll see a list of every pick your team currently owns — current season and future seasons — labeled by round and year (e.g., "2027 Round 2", "2027 Round 4"). Picks already pledged to other pending trades are still visible, but trading them while another pending trade also references them puts both trades into the conflict-resolution path (see the Trade approval workflow for what auto-cancellation looks like).
The cap-impact column doesn't change when you add picks — picks don't carry salary. They only affect future roster math when the draft executes.
Pick visibility after a trade
Once a trade executes:
- The pick's
teamIdupdates to the new owner in a single transaction - The pick still shows its original-owner provenance in the pick chart (useful for league history and for understanding which team's draft slot a given pick represents)
- The receiving team sees the pick in their draft-room queue when the draft starts
- The losing team no longer sees the pick in their assets
League rules to know
How many future seasons of picks your team has, and whether the league issues picks at all, are controlled by per-league settings your commissioner manages. Pick allotment per season (commonly 4 draft picks + a small number of FA picks) is one of those settings — see your league-settings page for the exact numbers your commissioner has configured.
Some leagues set policy on trading picks too far in advance (e.g., no more than two seasons out). That kind of restriction is enforced socially by the commissioner, not by the app — the trade builder will let you propose any pick you currently own. Check your league's rules before chaining picks across multiple future seasons.
Where to view your team's picks
- Team page → Picks tab — every draft pick and FA pick your team currently owns, with original-owner provenance
- Draft room — when a draft is live, your queue shows your remaining picks in order
- Pick chart — leaguewide view showing the full inventory of unspent picks across all teams (great for sizing up which teams have surplus picks before pitching a trade)
