Commissioner Tools

The commissioner is the founder and admin of a league. FanPoolHQ gives you a focused toolkit — league settings, member management, draft setup, scoring config, and approval queues — all reachable from the admin surface. This article is your map of what lives where.

What a commissioner does

A commissioner is the user who created the league (or who was handed the keys by the previous commissioner). You own the configuration of the league and you handle the moments where the league needs a referee: approving trades when your league requires it, managing team-owner invites, opening drafts, adjusting scoring partway through a season if the league votes to, and clearing the scheduled-drop queue when compliance windows arrive.

You are not babysitting the league — most of the day-to-day movement (roster moves, trade proposals, free-agent picks, pool picks) happens between owners with no commissioner involvement. The commissioner's job is configuration up front and adjudication when something needs a decision.

Where the tools live

Almost everything a commissioner needs is reachable from the admin surface. The main entry points:

  • Commissioner dashboard (/admin/commissioner-dashboard) — at-a-glance view of pending approvals, recent activity, and league health. Start here when you log in to see what needs your attention.
  • League settings (/admin/league-settings) — every per-league knob: roster rules, salary cap, scoring rules, draft type, trade rules, scheduled drops, feature toggles, Discord webhook. See League Settings Reference for the full field list.
  • Member management (/admin/users) — invite GMs, remove team owners, promote a member to co-commissioner. See Managing Team Owners for the workflows.
  • Drafts admin (/admin/drafts) — create a draft, set the type (snake / linear / lottery / auction), set the start time, open the room. See League Setup Wizard for first-time setup; the drafts admin page handles ongoing draft management.
  • Trade approvals — when your league requires commissioner approval on trades, accepted trades land in your approval queue, accessible from the dashboard. See the Trade Approval Workflow walkthrough.
  • Free-agent approvals (/admin/fa-approvals) — if your league has the freeAgentApprovalRequired toggle on, owners' FA pickups queue here for your review.
  • Season transition (/admin/season-transition) — at season end, the commissioner runs the archive + reset flow that snapshots the season into the archive and prepares the next year's roster state.
  • Support inbox (/admin/support) — if a GM in your league opens a support ticket, you see it here alongside the global admin support queue.

Day-to-day rhythm

Most weeks, the commissioner's job is light:

  • Scan the dashboard for pending trade or FA approvals — approve or reject from the queue
  • Check the scheduled-drop calendar if your league uses scheduled drops, and post a reminder in your league forum or Discord ahead of each cutoff
  • Watch for support tickets or notifications flagging a stuck roster move or a scoring edge case

Seasonally, the commissioner has the larger jobs: setting up the league at the start (see League Setup Wizard), running the draft, setting the trade deadline and roster-freeze date, and running the season transition at the end. The rest of the time the league mostly runs itself.
